Forest fires have become one of the world’s most pressing environmental problems of the 21st century. From the tropical rainforests of the Amazon to the savannas of Australia, this incidence has increased drastically in recent years. Many factors have contributed to this surge, including climate change, deforestation and unsustainable agricultural practices. One of the main causes of increasing forest fires is global warming. Continuously rising temperatures cause more extreme dry conditions, triggering fires more easily. In Indonesia, for example, land burning for palm oil is very common, contributing to haze and health problems across the region. Forest fires also have a huge ecological impact. Various international initiatives, such as the Paris Agreement, emphasize the importance of climate change mitigation and ecosystem protection. Education about sustainable forest management must also be strengthened to encourage people to care more about the environment. Wildfires are a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted approach. Further research is needed to understand the interactions between the factors that cause fires and to develop technologies that can help prevent and extinguish fires efficiently. In the digital era, the use of drones and satellites for forest monitoring can quickly improve responses to fires. As an important step in improving the situation, every individual and organization can contribute through simple actions such as reducing the use of products linked to deforestation, supporting environmental activist organizations, and participating in reforestation programs. A collaborative and sustainable approach is needed to maintain ecosystem balance and ensure future generations can enjoy the benefits of healthy forests.
