GADGET-2 is a major revision of the popular cosmological simulation code, originally developed at the Institute for Astrophysics and Planetology (IAP). It is a nearly complete rewrite of the core algorithms from the previous version. This includes a completely revised time integration scheme, the addition of a TreePM algorithm, a replacement of the old domain decomposition strategy for gravitational and SPH forces, a new communication scheme between SPH and gravitational force modules, and a novel SPH formulation based on entropy as indepedent variable. Further details can be found in the documentation subdirectory of this distribution. The main references for the implemented physics, and the algorithmic and numerical aspects of GADGET-2 can be found in the paper “GADGET-2: A collisionless and gasdynamical cosmological simulation code”, Springel V. et al., MNRAS, in press.
